Expectations of Mentees

CMC mentees are expected to:

One-On-One Meetings

Mentors and mentees are asked to meet in person at least once a quarter and to communicate via email or phone every other week. These one-on-one meetings are an opportunity for mentees to get to know their mentor and to ensure good progress toward the mentees stated career and personal goals.

CMC Programming & Social Events

CMC sponsors several exciting events each quarter that range from social and cultural outings to workshops on career & academically related topics. In addition to CMC sponsored events, students are encouraged to attend relevant events sponsored by CAPS. A list of all CMC and CAPS events are listed in the calendar section. Mentors will review this list of events with their mentee and will together decide which events would be most beneficial in meeting the mentee's individual career goals. Mentors are encouraged to accompany mentees to any CMC events they wish.

CMC's Quarterly Dinners

Explore some of Chicago's famous eateries! A dinner is held quarterly for all CMC participants. This dinner provides an opportunity for participants to form a cohesive group, network and exchange ideas. All participants are strongly encouraged to attend.

Mentoring Contract

A strong commitment by mentors and mentees holds the CMC program together! To support this commitment, mentors and mentees are asked to sign a mentoring contract that outlines the goals and responsibilities of each party. The terms of the contract should be reviewed and agreed upon. One copy of the contract goes to the mentor and one goes to the mentee. The contract is a way to help encourage full program participation.
