Welcome to the Chicago Multicultural Connection!
The Chicago Multicultural Connection (CMC) is a career-focused mentoring program that seeks to assist students of color in identifying post-graduate options. Sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, CMC’s development is a result of the merger between the Minority Graduate Students Association (MGSA) mentoring program and the Asian/Asian-American mentorship program.
CMC facilitates workshops and social events that promote networking and help prepare students for the transition from college life to employment, graduate school or professional school.
In addition to sponsoring relevant workshops and events, CMC also provides one-on-one mentorship. Each participating student is matched with a mentor according to their academic and career interests. Mentors are members of the University of Chicago community and may be a graduate student, staff member, faculty or alumnus. Mentors play a critical role in sharing their own personal and professional experiences and are encouraged to provide support and guidance to their mentees on a wide range of life and career related issues. Through the mentoring relationship, students are encouraged to explore career opportunities and to begin defining and pursing their professional goals.
The primary goals of the CMC are:
- to assist students in the College in identifying post-graduate opportunities
- to instill the importance of networking among students, staff/faculty and alumni;
- to celebrate multiculturalism and encourage cross-cultural dialogue on campus; and
- to help provide academic enrichment opportunities for students.
