Learn About OMSA

The Amandla Series

Students can also enjoy a number of OMSA sponsored events at Amandla, including but not limited to the Academic Enhancement Series, the Amandla Faculty-Student Dialogue Series, the Community Building Series, and CORE (an identity forum).

Academic Enhancement Workshops

Academic Enhancement Workshops cover everything from tips on studying and writing papers for first years to where to look for scholarship and fellowship information.

Amandla Faculty-Student Dialogue Series

The Amandla Faculty-Student Dialogue Series gives students the opportunity to meet faculty of color at the University. Faculty members share everything from their current research endeavors to their personal development as individuals and as scholars in their respective fields.

Community Building Series

These study breaks offer students a chance to come together, catch up with happenings in each others lives, and enjoy good food.

Conversations on Race & Ethnicity (CORE)

CORE is a quarterly forum on racial, ethnic, and cultural identity. Here, students are able to have a candid facilitated discussion about their identities with other students. The discussion usually begins with an exercise to stimulate conversation.

Graduate and Professional Studies Series

This series is designed to help students navigate the graduate and professional school application process. Learn how to secure effective recommendations, where to take test prep classes, how to approach your statement of purpose, and what current students think about their graduate and professional school experiences.

Graduate Student Brown Bag Series

This series is designed to allow graduate school students to present their research to an open, non-judgemental audience. In addition to gaining valuable presentation experience to add to the CV, students obtain excellent feedback on their work from engaged peers!

Life Series

Students speak candidly about various aspects of their life and how those aspects are influenced by notions of ethnicity and culture. Common topics include dating, family life, and various individual and group psychological states.
