5710's Grand Opening was a great success. We thank all who participated for celebrating this important milestone.
OMSA, the Amandla Center, and the Office of LGBTQ Student Life.are located in new, student-centered facilities at 5710 South Woodlawn Avenue. At 5710 South Woodlawn we offer meeting, resources, and lounge space, all of which are shared with the Office of LGBTQ Student Life. Priority is given to student programs and events in line with these guiding values: community, integrity, respect, innovation, advocacy, truth, empowerment, and freedom.
5710 South Woodlawn is a student-centered space which will enhance the overall campus experience for students of color and LGBTQ students as well as serve as a vibrant hub for students to congregate together, join in programming and community-building, and work closely with staff from OMSA and the Office of LGBTQ Student Life.
5710 South Woodlawn includes a large lounge for events, programs, and socializing, a small study lounge, a conference room, offices for related student organizations and student programming, meeting and storage spaces, a kitchenette, resource library and common computer resources, and office space for OMSA and the Office of LGBTQ Student Life on the second and third floors.

The Amandla Center
The Amandla Center has moved into its permanent home in 5710 South Woodlawn. The Amandla lounge is located on the third floor of the building. The Amandla resource library is located on the first floor of the building.

Hours of Operation
5710 hours are:
- 5710 is open for student use Monday through Friday from 9:00am-11:00pm.
- Staff are available during these times to support center patrons.
Room Reservations for RSOs
If you are interested in using a space within 5710, you can complete the online space request form. Please allow 48-72 hours for room reservation confirmation from a 5710 staff person.
Please note that 5710 will accept paper request forms for the rest of the Fall Quarter. Beginning Winter Quarter, all request must be submitted online through the space request form.
5710 Common Areas
2nd Floor Conference Room

This medium sized room provides a more intimate setting for meetings and group gatherings. The conference table can comfortably seat 10 people.
Amandla Lounge
"Amandla" is a South African Zulu word for "power"; and in 2003 the Amandla Center was established to celebrate and embrace cultural diversity at the University of Chicago. Since its conception, the space has evolved and now it is an integral part of this building.
The lounge features a mix of tables, chairs, and sofas, with seating that can accommodate up to 29 people. The ample and comfortable seating along with the addition of a flat screen TV (cable channels coming soon!) make this space and excellent place to study or relax, and perfect meeting place for your group or event.
Community Lounge

This room represents the new addition to the original 5710 house. The Community Lounge is the largest programming space available in the building and can accommodate upwards of 40 people. The lounge of is equipped with a built in projector and projection screen making it the ideal place to show a visual presentation or a movie. The glass doors that surround the room provide great sunlight and they can be opened to utilize the outdoor courtyard space.
LGBTQ Lounge

The LGBTQ Lounge celebrates the LGBTQ community on campus and provides a place for collaboration between other communities and allies. It will be the setting for many events from the LGBTQ Programming Office but any RSO is welcome to reserve this space. Its comfortable seating for upwards of 20 people along with its flat-screen TV make this a perfect place to gather, relax, or study.
RSO Conference Room

This lower level space provides a private meeting location for 14 - 20 people. The room features ample seating along the conference room table as well as a chalkboard painted wall, making it the perfect place to hold your next meeting.
RSO Office

The RSO office is an open space for students to study, have meetings and work on projects. In the upcoming weeks, the room will be equipped with computer stations for student usage. This room is also available on a limited basis to accommodate meetings for up to 12 people.
Shared Meeting Room

The Shared Conference Room is a multipurpose area that can be used for reading and studying, or for holding meetings or events. It consists of a comfortable lounge area as well as several tables. Seating in this space can accommodate small or large groups. The French doors connecting this room to the adjacent Resource Room can be opened to accommodate larger groups or events.
Shared Resource Room

The Shared Resource Room located on the first floor is an ideal space for studying and group projects. The tables and chairs provide seating for 12 -14 people. The room will soon have computers for student use and also contains multimedia resources from both OMSA and the LGBTQ Programming Office. The collection currently includes books, magazines, and DVDs. The room is physically connected to the Shared Conference Room through a pair of French doors. Both rooms can be reserved concurrently to accommodate larger groups and events.
