Learn About OMSA

Advocacy

OMSA works closely with other campus divisions to ensure that each is aware of and responsive to the needs of students of color. Students are strongly encouraged to speak with an OMSA staff person to address any concerns they may have about issues regarding diversity or equity on campus. Recently, OMSA conducted a campus climate survey to better assess the campus community and its needs. Results from the study will be published on the OMSA website as they become available.

To ask a question, raise a concern, or report an incident, contact any of the OMSA staff.

OMSA Student Advisory Board

The purpose of the OMSA Student Advisory Board is to inform the director of OMSA and the university administration on the needs of students of color, the problems and issues currently facing students of color and to advise OMSA on areas of programming currently being offered. Members of OMSA's Student Advisory Board are required to meet with the director of OMSA as a group once every two weeks. For more information, please contact Ana Vázquez. To learn about this year's Advisory Board members, please see our staff page.

Programming Satisfaction Survey

During the Spring 2007 Quarter, the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs (then the Office of Minority Student Affairs) surveyed undergraduate and graduate students of color at the University of Chicago. The Programming Satisfaction Survey allowed students to provide OMSA feedback and suggestions to consider while planning events and services for the 2006-2007 academic year.

Campus Climate Survey

During the Fall 2005 Quarter, the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs (then the Office of Minority Student Affairs) surveyed undergraduate and graduate students of color at the University of Chicago. The purpose of the Campus Climate Survey was threefold: First, it allowed OMSA to collect demographic data on the students of color population here at the University of Chicago. Second, the survey allowed students to provide OMSA feedback and suggestions to consider while planning events and services for the 2005-2006 academic year. And, finally, the survey provided OMSA with information on the campus climate for students of color.

At the University of Chicago, freedom of expression is vital to our shared goal of the pursuit of knowledge, as is the right of all members of the community to explore new ideas and learn from one another. To preserve an environment of spirited and open debate, we should all have the opportunity to contribute to intellectual exchanges and participate fully in the life of the University.
